We delayed the vote – Let’s keep building power!

The LA No More Jails Coalition has been fighting jail expansion for the past 10 years in Los Angeles and not one cage has been built.
On Tuesday, October 11, the Board of Supervisors was set to vote on whether to approve the Final Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for a proposed women’s jail. This would have been one of the last times to vote against the environmental impacts of the planned jail.

Because of everyone who took action and demonstrated our people power, WE DELAYED THE VOTE! The Board of Supervisors will not be voting to move forward with construction of the women’s jail on Tuesday, October 11. The vote has been continued to a later day (potentially in a couple of weeks). While this is a success because it indicates the pressure we are putting on the Board, we cannot slow our opposition or let them take advantage of a break in organizing momentum.

We will not have a mass mobilization to the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, and instead we will still have a press conference to launch the CURB report on the toxic impacts of prisons and jails (see below). We are still encouraging folks who can make it out at 1pm to join us to voice your concern and opposition to the toxic women’s jail. If you can make it out, join us!

Press Conference @ 11am
CURB Report Launch

Voice your opposition to the women’s jail @ 1pm

Please stay tuned for our call for a mass mobilization to stop the toxic women’s jail soon.

Thanks to everyone who took action to support this fight against jail expansion in Los Angeles!
